Photo Directory

Introduction

Hello! My name is Juan Pablo Vega Murillo, and this is my final report for the WP Credits program at Universidad Fidélitas. During this program, I contributed to the WordPress Photo Directory by submitting original photographs under the CC0 license. This report summarizes my contributions, the challenges I faced, the knowledge I gained, and how this experience helped me grow as an open-source contributor..

Teams and Projects I Contributed To

My project focused on sharing original photographs taken in Costa Rica, mainly landscapes, nature, and local scenery. My goal was to contribute high-quality images that anyone in the WordPress community could freely use in their websites and projects.

Learning Resources

During this project, I used different WordPress resources to learn how to contribute correctly. The WordPress Photo Directory Guidelines helped me understand the rules for submitting photos and the quality they should have.

I also used the Make WordPress Photos Handbook to learn more about the Photos Team and how the review process works. The Learn WordPress courses helped me understand open-source projects and how the WordPress community works.

Challenges and Solutions

One of my biggest challenges was choosing the right photos to upload. At first, I was not sure if my photos met the quality standards. I solved this by reading the WordPress Photo Directory Guidelines and carefully selecting my best photos before submitting them.

Another challenge was understanding why some photos were not accepted. Instead of giving up, I reviewed the feedback, learned from my mistakes, and improved my future submissions.

I also had to be patient during the review process because every photo is checked by volunteers. This taught me that good contributions take time and that quality is more important than speed.

Key Learnings from the WP Credits Program

The WP Credits program taught me that contributing to open-source projects requires responsibility, patience, and attention to detail.

I learned that every contribution, even a photograph, must follow specific rules and quality standards. I also understood the importance of reviewing my work before submitting it.

Another important lesson was that the WordPress community is based on collaboration. People from different countries contribute their time and knowledge to improve the platform.

New Skills Gained

During the WP Credits program, I developed new skills that helped me improve both personally and technically. I learned how to use WordPress.org, submit photos to the WordPress Photo Directory, choose better images, and create content for my portfolio website.

Personal reflections and next steps
